St. Berchmans College, established in June 1922, with its own distinct identity and tradition has been enserving as the tower of learning for many generations. It has moulded the destiny of hundreds of people for a better tomorrow. The College has emerged as a leading centre for teaching, learning, and research in the field of higher education in South India.Over the past nine decades, it has grown up gradually and steadily, initiating Undergraduate Programmes in 1927, Postgraduate Programmes in 1957 and Research Programmes in 1986. At present, the College offers 17 UG, 19 PG, and 3 MPhil Programmes.

Nine Departments are offering Doctoral Programmes. Five programmes – 2 B Voc Programmes and 3 add-on courses – are sponsored by the UGC.The pursuit of excellence by the St. Berchmans College is evidenced by its winning the prestigious R. Sankar Award instituted by the Government of Kerala for the best special grade aided college in the State in 1996 and 1997.

The attempt of the college in quality enhancement is clear in the accreditation and assessment grades that the college has received earlier: Five Star in 1999, Graded ‘A+’ in 2006 and ‘A’ Grade in 2012. The College was again assessed and accredited with an ‘A’ Grade in the fourth cycle of NAAC accreditation in 2017. It is ranked 46 in the ranking conducted by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2018, released by Ministry of Human Resource Development.It is a great land mark in the history of the college that it was declared as an autonomous college in 2014 by the University Grants Commission.

Autonomy is a great responsibility vested in us to take the college to further heights. With autonomous status given to us, we could design the curriculum for the holistic development of the students. It is an opportunity to tap the full potential of the college for the integral development of students. We hope that the students make use of the facilities and become confident, intellectually bright and morally strong.

I am happy to note that the management of the college has clear and proper vision and is constantly equipping the college to attain the vision and mission of the college.

The reputation, the college has acquired and established over these years of its excellence is due to the dedication and selfless commitment of teachers, supporting staff, and the students. We appreciate the dedication and the selfless service of the great teachers of the past. This rich legacy is carried on by the present generation of teachers who are striving sincerely to take the college to even greater heights.

I would like to express my deep gratitude and appreciation for the remarkable services rendered by Dr Tomy Padinjareveetil. Dear Father, your contributions, as the principal of this college, have indeed been very valuable and are worthy to be followed by others. Dear Fr John J Chavara, a big thanks for your relentless and constant support and love.
