Renewable Energy Management

The Department of Renewable Energy Management is dedicated to providing quality education and skill-based training in the rapidly growing field of sustainable energy. The department focuses on bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements by offering practical exposure, hands-on training, and industry-oriented curriculum. With the increasing global demand for clean and green energy solutions, the department aims to develop competent professionals who can contribute effectively to the renewable energy sector. The B. Voc degree is equivalent to BA/B.Sc degree for higher studies and employment.

About B.Voc.

  • Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) is a skill-based undergraduate degree program designed to enhance employability and practical knowledge. Unlike conventional degree courses, B.Voc emphasizes hands-on training, industry exposure, and real-world applications. It integrates theoretical learning with practical skills, internships, and on-the-job training, making graduates industry-ready.

    As a part of B Voc programme, state-of-the-art lab facilities were set up to train the students

  • SOLAR PV TRAINING & RESEARCH SYSTEM

    The Solar PV Training & Research System is a mini-Solar PV Plant Prototype which enables students to understand in-depth concepts about stand-alone PV systems. The product also provides research orientation on several concepts such as MPPT, inverter control etc.

  • SOLAR PV GRID TIED TRAINING SYSTEM

    Solar PV Grid-Tied Training System can be used for training and research of complete life cycle of Grid Tied System.

  • SOLAR THERMAL TRAINING SYSTEM

    Solar Flat-Plate Collector Based system is a replica of the solar water heating system designed in a form of experimental setup to help students learn and experience different parameters of performance of Flat Plate Collector System.

  • WIND ENERGY TRAINING SYSTEM

    Wind Energy Training System is a scaled down version of actual wind turbine power plant. This system facilitates the students with working on configurable model of wind turbine.

  • SOLAR CONCENTRATOR TRAINING SYSTEM

    The Solar Parabolic Trough Collector Based System consists of parabolic reflectors, absorber tube, sun tracker, piping, storage tanks and a heat exchanger. The system can be used to perform experiments in heat transfer, parabolic trough characteristics and heat loss at different parts of the system.

  • Standalone solar photovoltaic system

    In spite of this, the institution has set up a 1 KW Standalone solar photovoltaic system for study purpose

  • Industrial Visit

    An industry visit/training is conducted each year so that students get an opportunity to familiarize with different renewable energy equipment and technologies around them. The students of current batches have undergone industry visit/training in the following centers:

    • Ahalia Alternate Energy Pvt Ltd ,Palakkad,
    • Renewable Energy Centre MITHRADHAM Aluva, Kerala
    • Floating Solar Power Plant by Vatsaa Energy Pvt. Ltd in Banasura Sagar dam, Wayanad

    Collaborations with industries are established and their inputs are being collected to update the skill components of the curriculum. The industry collaborations are established with the following companies:

    Job Placements

    Students from the passed-out batches are placed in many reputed industries/companies like Fuji Electric Consul Neowatt, TDN Bharath, Reecco Energy Pvt. Ltd, Thapas Energy, Soleco Energy Pvt Ltd etc.

    Hands On Training (HOT) and On Job Training (OJT)

    After the second and fourth semester examinations students undergo one-month internship in relevant industries.  Some of the companies they underwent training programmes are:

    Alumini Talk

    Industrial Visit: Neriamangalam Power House and Dam

    23 July 2025 The department organized a one-day industrial visit to the Neriamangalam Power House and Dam, allowing students to explore Kerala’s hydroelectric power infrastructure.

    • Students attended specialized technical sessions to understand the real-world working principles of hydropower plants.
    • The visit provided a hands-on look at turbine operations and the mechanical integration required for sustainable energy generation.

    Expert Talk: Beyond the Sun

    13 August 2025 An insightful session titled “Beyond the Sun: Solar Storage and Hydrogen, Building the Future Microgrid” was held at the SLT Hall.

    • Resource Person: Mr. Rakesh S. S., Co-founder and CEO of Celtron Energies.
    • The talk focused on the evolution of solar storage technology and the critical role of hydrogen in modern microgrid development.

    Educational Visit: Energy Management Centre (EMC)

    16 September 2025 Students visited the Energy Management Centre, Trivandrum, the state-designated agency under the Ministry of Power.

    • A dedicated energy conservation class was conducted for the students.
    • The program included a tour of the energy labs to witness advanced conservation technologies in practice.

    Akshay Urja Diwas – Campus Solar Study

    24 September 2025 In observance of Akshay Urja Diwas, students visited the 150 kW on-campus solar power plant.

    • The session was led by Mr. Joel Jacob, an alumnus and current Technical Engineer at True Sun.
    • Students gained valuable insights into the operational sustainability and maintenance of large-scale solar systems.

    National Energy Conservation Day Expert Talk

    16 December 2025 To commemorate National Energy Conservation Day, the department hosted a session on “Entrepreneurship in Renewable Energy” at 1:00 PM in the SLT Hall.

    • Resource Person: Mr. Georgekutty Kariyanapally, Managing Director of Lifeway Solar Devices Ltd.
    • The talk encouraged students to explore business opportunities and innovation within the green energy sector.

    Two-Day Industrial Visit: Palakkad

    December 2025 A comprehensive two-day industrial tour was conducted to explore diverse renewable sources in Palakkad.

    • Meenvallom Mini Hydro Power: Study of small-scale hydro-generation.
    • Kinfra Wind Power: Observations of wind turbine technology and grid integration.

     

    Student Participation

    • Nikhil S. Anand and Antan K. Thomas (2022–25 Batch) presented a paper on “Solar EV Wireless Charging Systems” at the Albertian Knowledge Summit 2025, Ernakulam.
    • Aslin Joswa, Deeya Dayalu, and Shinas Shereef (2023–26 Batch) secured 2nd Prize in the Intercollegiate Project Competition at St. Albert’s College. Their project focused on fabricating DSSC using carbon quantum dots derived from table sugar.
    • The first-year UG students represented the department with a stellar group dance performance during the College Day celebrations in March 2026.

    Industrial Visit: KREEPA Green Power Expo

    January 2026 -Students of the B.Voc Renewable Energy Management department visited the KREEPA Green Power Expo held at the Adlux International Convention Centre, Angamaly. This premier exhibition, organized by the Kerala Renewable Energy Entrepreneurs and Promoters Association (KREEPA), showcased the latest advancements in green technology.

    • Students explored cutting-edge innovations in solar PV modules, wind energy, and e-mobility solutions.
    • The visit provided a platform to interact with industry leaders and technical experts, offering insights into energy storage solutions and sustainable infrastructure.
    • The program included observing live demonstrations of renewable energy products and attending technical seminars focused on future energy trends.
