About the Centre

The Berchmans Centre for Global Academic Excellence (BCGAE) of St. Berchmans College was established in 2025 with the generous support of the Dr. George Padanilam Family Foundation. The Centre is dedicated to promoting academic ambition, research excellence, and global engagement among students.

BCGAE provides sustained mentorship, advanced skill development, and strategic guidance to help students of St. Berchmans College explore and secure higher education and research opportunities at leading global institutions. Through regular training programmes, workshops, and expert-led sessions conducted by college faculty and distinguished external resource persons, the Centre strengthens competencies in academic writing, research methodology, critical thinking, communication, and scholarly preparedness. It also supports students in academic and professional growth, helping them build strong profiles for higher studies and global opportunities.BCGAE equips students to excel in international academic environments and contribute meaningfully to the world of higher learning.

Activities

BCGAE organizes a wide range of initiatives designed to strengthen academic competencies and global readiness, including:

  1. Internships on academic communication and research that offer hands-on exposure to research culture and professional writing practices.
  2. Workshops and training sessions on academic writing, research skills, presentation techniques, and standardized test preparation.
  3. Expert talks and lectures by international scholars and subject specialists to promote global academic perspectives and interdisciplinary learning.
  4. One-on-one mentoring and guidance for university applications, résumé development, statements of purpose, and online academic presence.
  5. Support for scholarship and fellowship applications, helping students access funding and international academic opportunities.
  6. Skill development sessions in communication, leadership, research proposal writing, and academic planning to enhance scholarly and professional readiness.
  7. Orientation programmes on global academic systems.
  8. Multidisciplinary journal clubs that encourage critical discussion, peer learning, and collaborative research engagement.
